Masik Karthigai Deepam Puja Vidhi (कार्तिगाई पूजा एवं व्रत विधि)
- Get up early in the morning on this day in an auspicious Brahma Muhurta (ब्रह्ममुहूर्त में उठें).
- After finishing the bath, take a vow of Karthigai fast in front of God.
- Thereafter, worship Lord Shiva with true devotion (भगवान शिव जी की पूजा).
- Worship Lord Shiva with white flowers, lamp, fruits, incense sticks, perfume, honey, cannabis, datura etc.
- Light an earthen lamp in front of Lord Shiva.
- After this, observe a fast for the whole day remembering Lord Shiva (भगवान शिव का स्मरण करते हुए व्रत करें).
- Recite Shiva Kavach or path together (शिव कवच का पाठ करें).
- In the end pray after the aarti.
- Keep fast throughout the day, as per physical capacity.
- In the evening, invoke (आह्वान) Lord Shiva by lighting a lamp at an auspicious time.
- Pray to him for the well being of your family (परिवार के कुशल मंगल की प्रार्थना करें).
- After that take food food. On the next day, after completing the worship, break the Masik Karthigai fast.
Importance/Significance of Masik Karthigai Deepam (मासिक कार्तिगाई दीपम का महत्व)
It is one of the oldest festival of Tamil Hindus which is more celebrating in other south parts of India. On this day the house is decorated with oil lamps. This Karthigai Deepam day is celebrated to mark the supremacy of Lord Shiva. According to mythology, Lord Murugan was born from the third eye of Lord Shiva on this day that why Karthigai Deepam is celebrated. As per the belief, on the day of Karthigai, worshipping Lord shiva and murugan according to the law and inviting him by lighting a lamp removes negativity from life. By doing this vrat everyone remains well in the family and a new energy and light is transmitted in life.
